Endemol, which has also given UK television the reality shows, 'The Games', 'The Salon' and 'Shattered', will produce a new, celebrity-based, peaktime show for Five in the autumn.
Last year's effort, 'Back to Reality' made by Princess Productions, cost Five £4.7m and failed to enthuse audiences -- as well as being criticised by Endemol for ripping off the 'Big Brother' format.
The 8pm broadcast averaged an audience share of 4.2%, while the 11pm show garnered a more respectable 8.7% -- well below the 10% audience figure Five chief executive, Jane Lighting, had hoped for.
Compared with ITV's 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!', which averaged a 30% audience share on a typical night and 'Big Brother' regularly commanding over the 25% mark, rising to 40% on a crucial eviction night, 'Back to Reality' gave Five definite cause for concern.
The station is hoping Endemol will revive its reality TV status and continue to boost the channel's audience share, which has grown from 6.5% to 6.8% in the first half of 2004.
