Endemol creative emerges as C4 favourite

LONDON - Peter Bazalgette, the creative director of Endemol Entertainment, has emerged as the favourite to replace Channel 4 chief executive Michael Jackson.

Bazalgette is among a number of other high-profile TV executives believed to be chasing the top post at Channel 4.

Other names believed to be in the running include: Channel 5 chief executive Dawn Airey; BBC director of television Mark Thompson; and Channel 4 director of programmes Tim Gardam, if he applies. Former Pearson Television and ITV chief executive Richard Eyre has also been linked to the role.

However, industry speculation suggests that Thompson's interest in the Channel 4 job may be waning. He is said to have his eye on a bigger prize -- the position of director general at the BBC.

Reports indicate that if deputy chairman Gavyn Davies is appointed chairman of the BBC, current director general Greg Dyke could resign before the end of his term.

Jackson is to join USA Networks headed by CEO Barry Diller. He is joining USA Entertainment -- part of USA Networks, of which the Sci Fi Channel is a division.
