Five scores rare victory over ITV1

LONDON - ITV1's new series of 'Ladette to Lady' was beaten by Five's 'CSI' as well as BBC One's bed hopping drama series 'Mistresses', which won the primetime slot, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The third hour-long instalment of 'Mistresses' retained its audience from last week, with 4.8m viewers and a 20.2% share at 9pm.

ITV1's new crop of "common as muck" girls, who are drafted into a posh finishing school with the aim of being outfitted with some social graces, could not compete with the thirty-something series 'Mistresses', attracting an audience of only 3.4m.

Five scored a rare victory over its rival ITV1 with the latest series of US hit drama 'Crime Scene Investigation', attracting 3.5m viewers and a 14.6% compared to ITV1's 14.2%.

Channel 4 lagged its commercial competitors with 'Medicine Men Go Wild', in which two doctors sampled the healing methods of an African pygmy tribe. It started its four-part run with 1.5m viewers and a 6.2% share.

In the 10pm news battle BBC One underlined its dominance over the relaunched ITV1 'News at Ten' with 4.7m viewers to ITV1's 2.2m.
