Six hundred young people will compete in the finals of regional competitions for trades from plumbing to floristry, and organisers hope more than 100,000 visitors will attend.

The annual event will take place at the NEC for at least three years and is orgnaised by charity UK Skills which also organised World Skills London, . Some members of the team such as Ross Moloney, operations director of World Skills London, will work on the new show.

The Skills Show was announced in parliament yesterday by John Hayes MP, the skills minister, as part of measures to boost the quality of apprenticeships for young people.

Jaine Bolton director of the National Apprenticeship Service told Event: "World Skills London was definitely the catalyst for launching this event. Those people that were involved in World Skills always believed that we needed one of these competitions in the UK. But I think it took the event itself to show others the power of bringing all of those different elements together."
