Financial Times appoints new editor for Saturday edition

LONDON – The Financial Times has promoted Michael Skapinker from management editor to editor of the Weekend FT, its Saturday edition.

He replaces previous Weekend FT editor Richard Addis, who has become design editor on the FT. Addis has been in the job since May 2003, when he took over following Chrystia Freeland's promotion to FT deputy editor.

Before becoming management editor, Skapinker held a number of positions at the FT, including aerospace correspondent, leisure industry correspondent and electronics writer.

Andrew Gowers, editor of the FT, said: "Mike is a very creative operator with experience across the board of editing, reporting and as a high-profile columnist. He has the perfect combination of skills to take the helm at the Weekend FT, and ensure it remains the finest, most thoughtful and entertaining weekend read."

The Weekend FT is published on Saturday and remains available on Sunday. It had a relaunch in April 2003 that saw the introduction of a regular glossy magazine, the broadening of news coverage outside the weekday's City themes, and extended features.

Before he joined the FT in 1986, Skapinker was a senior editor on International Management magazine.
