Film Tree will act as a broker, introducing brands to producers in an effort to build commercial relationships early in the film-making process.
This will allow more creative input and joint creation of extra content to be used as part of additional projects or marketing including the creation of online content or as DVD extras.
Ed Sharp, partner at Film Tree, says: ‘This is a much richer and deeper association that producers are willing to put on the table to complete the financing of their film. There are so many opportunities for brands that will be mutually beneficial to the UK film industry.'
The benefits for brands in funding film projects will include brand integration, joint creation of content, and the use of assets such as clips and stills from the finished film.
Brands could also choose to become equity partners, allowing them to take a share of profits or own the copyright in certain countries.
Marketing's publisher, Haymarket Brand Media, will work with Film Tree to launch the project. It will help inform brands about the various opportunities available and produce content to support the project.
John Woodward, chief executive of the UK Film Council, says: ‘Essentially we are establishing a partnership that will enable brands to speak more directly to filmmakers about financing new films, creating a genuine fit between the brand and the film project looking for production finance.'
