It will also open stores in other cities around the world, including Tokyo and Los Angeles and, as-yet unconfirmed, locations in Latin America, China and India.
The stores will sell a line of FIFA-branded merchandise such as retro football shirts from bygone World Cups, leisurewear and accessories. According to FIFA, the stores are designed to appeal to both male and female consumers of all ages.
FIFA also plans to increase its income through the development of an online store, which is scheduled to go live this autumn on its fifa.com website, making it fully transactional for the first time.
The next FIFA World Cup takes place in 2010 in South Africa, where the governing body will sell its range of merchandise through a number of Official FIFA World Cup Stores.
