Famed photographer Mario Testino lends support to Kate Moss

LONDON – Fashion photographer Mario Testino has openly supported his friend and colleague Kate Moss, after her cocaine scandal, saying she is not 'tormented, torrid or depressed' and should not be judged by 10 minutes of her life.

Speaking to Radio 4's 'Desert Island Discs' on Sunday, Testino criticised those who were quick to judge the supermodel, saying life is not black and white.

"There is a moment where everyone wants to just lose that little bit of control. Who knows?

"Maybe that was her moment and we just happened to see that moment and all of a sudden we're judging out of 10 minutes the life of somebody and destroying it. I don't think life is so black and white," he said.

Testino also talked about how he has been working with 31-year-old Moss since she was a teenager.

"Since 15 till today, she's never not been there on a shoot, never said to me 'I'm tired, I don't want to work', never. She works from eight in the morning till 12 at night if need be," he said.

Moss, who was previously earning up to £4m a year, has lost many of her lucrative contracts including H&M, Burberry and Chanel, after a tabloid newpaper splashed pictures of her allegedly snorting cocaine with her on/off boyfriend rocker Pete Doherty.

She is now spending time in a rehab clinic in Arizona after a public apology and admitting she has "various problems" to resolve.

Since the cocaine incident, Pirelli has kept her in its calendar and W magazine showed its support with an eight-page fashion shoot entitled Survivors. Yves Saint Laurent has also come out in support of the Croydon-born model and she appears to have hung on to her deal with Rimmel London.

During the Radio 4 interview with Sue Lawley, Testino also talks about the pressures of life in the spotlight, why he loves London and how he felt when he photographed Diana, Princess of Wales.

As well as the world's greatest supermodels, 51-year-old Testino has shot Madonna for Versace as well as photographing the late Pricness Di for her famous Vanity Fair cover in 1997.
