Face-to-face fundraising boosts charity donations

LONDON - The number of donors recruited through face-to-face fundraising, including both street and door-to-door activity, was up last year, despite the impact of the recession.

Charities secured 681,000 additional donors through face-to-face methods in the 2008 to 2009 financial year - up 16% on the previous year, according to the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA).

This face-to-face technique has recently been employed in WH Smith stores. The retailer allowed fundraisers to approach shoppers as they entered its shops and browsed for magazines.
