Express Newspapers shifts £10m account to MediaCom

LONDON - Express Newspapers has moved its £10m media account from MindShare into its sister agency MediaCom. The shift frees MindShare to pitch for the £30m News International business.

The Richard Desmond-owned newspaper group appointed MindShare in January to handle media planning and buying for the Daily Express and Sunday Express. The account moved from OMD UK without a pitch.

However, Northern & Shell, the owner of Express Newspapers, has now agreed with WPP to centralise its media into MediaCom, which has a long-standing relationship with N&S and handles media for the Daily Star, Sunday Star and its celebrity titles.

MindShare now has a clear run at the News International business, which is reviewing out of Carat. The pitch was put on hold after Richard Webb, the News Group Newspapers general manager, departed. It is expected to recommence in the next few weeks.
