Expedia launches space offering as April Fool joke

LONDON - Expedia has launched a new division, called Expedia Space, as part of an elaborate April Fool joke.

The online travel agent, which usually only offers consumers holiday packages to locations on Earth, is now giving people the chance to go on holiday to outer space, in keeping with its promise that its gives the consumer "more places to explore".

The "launch" is being announced through a new 30-second film, created by Meteorite, which has been seeded on social network sites and Expedia's own website.

Visitors looking to book the "once in a lifetime trip" can call a number listed on the Expedia site, where they will be transferred to an intergalactic call centre, and met with a specially recorded message.

Holidaymakers need to be quick, though, as the offer will change at midday today.
