Chris Hughes, CEO at Brand Events, Simon Kimble, CEO for Clarion Events and Trevor Foley, event director for the Global Event Summit are the driving forces behind the project to help Namuwongo.

During the next 12 months the group, which includes Excel London's Kevin Murphy; Doug Emslie from Tarsus; UBM's Jane Risby-Rose; Imago Techmedia's Hugh Keeble; and Mack Brooks' Stephen Brooks, aims to raise £400,000.

This funding will help provide free and clean water; free sanitation and hygenic toilets; health care; the creation of a new school; free sanitary products; and the provision of adult education services.

Hughes said: "This is a great opportunity for the event industry to unite and make a difference. A number of us are heading out to Namuwongo later this year and eventually we want to be hosting an event industry sports day and other activities out there."

There is also a fundraising dinner planned in May at The Brewery.

To become part of this unique industry project you can make. Alternatively you can sponsor a child from the village.
