LONDON - Peter Bale, former online editorial director at The Times, is joining Microsoft to take responsibility for content on MSN and Windows Live.

Bale takes the role of executive producer of the UK's online services group, reporting to the new general manager Sharon Baylay.

Bale spent two years at News International and has worked as a correspondent and senior editor at Reuters, and run his own media consultancy. He was also the founding managing editor of FTMarketWatch.

At Microsoft, Bale will sit on a new leadership team, which has been drawn together to help Microsoft improve the online experience and create innovative advertising packages.

Other members of the team are group marketing director Alex Payne, chief of staff Kate Isler and MSN veteran Chris Ward, who is commercial director.
