The organisations announced a memorandum of understanding today that will see them share information and experiences of event bidding, delivery capability and strategy development.
Both countries are similar in terms of population and geography. Particular areas of crossover between them are adventure sports, food and drink, and golf.
Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: "Our EventScotland team is highly regarded on the world stage and I am delighted that that we are engaging with New Zealand Major Events. This agreement will benefit the events industry and the wider visitor economy in both Scotland and New Zealand as there is a great deal to be shared between our two nations."
Kylie Archer, New Zealand Major Events Manager, added: "This is a very exciting initiative for us. New Zealand has always punched above its weight in the events it attracts, as has Scotland. Both countries have developed good reputations in the international event space and under this agreement we look forward to collaborating with EventScotland to take this success to the next level."
