I got into the events industry because it’s a fantastic sector to work in, not only is no day the same but seeing the end result of something we’ve created is very special.

I have worked here since 2010.

I was attracted to this particular role because it had everything I was looking for, an incredibly talented and fun to work with team, a forward thinking senior management structure and the chance to meet new and interesting people every day.

Not many people know that my first job was at a fruit and veg stall in Brighton Marina.

My worst experience at an event was not having enough gold envelopes at an awards do. It sounds ridiculous but it caused a flurry of calls, mild panic and even a 60-mile taxi journey.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s relationship building is key, there’s a lot of trust needed to award new business and it’s imperative that we demonstrate our ability to exceed expectations every time. We can come up with the most amazing creative, but the client needs to know we can deliver.

The best event I’ve been involved in was not an event we delivered – but a friend’s wedding in Argentina. If I said one of ours I’d have a lot of other clients upset I didn’t mention them.

If I could do it all over again I would have moved into the events sector earlier. It sounds corny but I could kick myself for not taking the opportunity sooner.

The one thing I can’t stand is the amount of event awards events there are. I want our clients winning awards in their field and they shouldn’t have to decipher 40-plus different associations and 100’s of nondescript categories.

Outside of work I spend my time hacking around wonderful golf courses, training for the Great North Run and planning my upcoming wedding in Croatia.

If money were no object I’d play the top 100 golf courses in the world, staying at the best hotels and utilising private planes, helicopters and boats.

The one thing I can’t do my job without is the people I work with, and, of course, my phone.

If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be Will Broome at LondonLaunch – the man gets paid to attend and be pampered at events.

If I ruled the event industry I would make every agency work off the same rate card and let the best creative win.
