I have worked here since 1995 when I joined forces with industry colleague Dianne Lynn to form the Taylor Lynn Corporation.
I was attracted to this particular role because it used all my skills: creativity, organisation, time management and sales ability. It is also a people business and I thrive on working with others, developing my team and watching clients enjoy our events.
Not many people know that I play the piano and have done since I was four years old. Taking pride of place in my lounge is a White Challen Baby Grand Piano, which I adore.
My worst experience at an event was realising that I had booked a really bad entertainer – an Elvis impersonator – who was great in rehearsals but dreadful on the night. I pulled him off stage after ten minutes. It was early in my career and I learned a valuable lesson, never work with children, animals or entertainers you have not seen before.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s that my business is very important in my life, but giving back to others is essential. Giving to my family in terms of time and support, and giving to local charity groups who can use my skills to raise funds and awareness.
The best event I’ve been involved in was my elder daughter’s wedding last December.
If I could do it all over again I would change nothing. You never go back. Just look forwards to new opportunities and challenges.
The one thing I can’t stand is people who lie.
Outside of work I spend my time with my wonderful husband Roger and my daughters Goldie and Katie. I can also confess to spending more than a little time buying Louis Vuitton handbags and shoes, love to have my nails manicured and spend many hours driving my baby – a jet black Porsche.
If money were no object I would sleep much better!
The one event I will never miss is my other daughter’s wedding.
The recession has meant that business is tougher than ever. TLC has had to work hard to successfully ride out the financial storms by working closely with clients to plan different styles of events that meet their changing budgets and priorities. It has presented a whole new set of marketing challenges, which I am pleased to say we are meeting.
The next 12 months will be challenging and amazing. We have some fabulous events in the calendar, I am seeing the corporate market slowly (very slowly) pick-up again and I enter my 25th year in the events industry.
If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be Richard Branson.
If I ruled the event industry I would have no ambition anymore.
