Event TV: World Cup activity "has to be immersive", says ITV

Kia Hanly, head of ITV Events, told Event its Fever Pitch activation in Manchester, themed around this year's Fifa World Cup in Rio, had to be immersive and go beyond broadcast coverage.

Hanly, who spoke exclusively to Event at last week's inaugural Event 360, said ITV wanted to highlight Brazil's vibrancy and emotion within a UK experience.

, a World Cup-inspired fan park, will be located at the former Granada Studio site in Manchester for the duration of the international football tournament.

The car park site will be transformed into a Brazilian-themed festival, recreating Copacobana beach in Rio using 450 tonnes of sand. International beach soccer teams will be playing football games followed by live screenings of the World Cup matches taking place in Brazil.

Speaking about Fever Pitch, Hanly said: "The activity fitted naturally with an integrated campaign in which viewers can watch the World Cup games on TV, but we wanted to bring it to life and enhance the experience, which has been a golden opportunity for us."
