A hundred charities worked on the campaign, which is the largest coalition of its kind in the UK since the Make Poverty History movement in 2005.
The charities are calling on Prime Minister David Cameron to use the UK’s G8 presidency this year to take action on the hunger crisis in developing countries. The campaign has the backing of Bill Gates and Desmond Tutu, and states "Enough Food for Everyone If…" followed by four key demands.
The London launch event took place on Wednesday (23 Jan) in the courtyard at Somerset House, organised by Frank PR with support from NJ Live.
A film created by Projection Advertising told the story behind the campaign: that there is enough food for everyone in the world, but not everyone gets enough food.
The display incorporated live tweets from the 1,000-strong audience, which included actors Bill Nighy, Keeley Hawes and Bonnie Wright.
Simultaneous events took place across the UK in more than 20 cities, including Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast.
During the time it took to run the 12-minute animation, campaign organisers say 52 children around the world will die from malnutrition and the UK will burn enough food crops as biofuels in cars to feed almost 90,000 people for a day.
