The new experience has been designed to market the airline’s destinations in the US, with users given the chance to explore Los Angeles, New York and Dallas. BA showcased the tech in the city centres of Milan, Frankfurt and Paris between 27 November and 1 December.

Guests were invited to wear the headset and chose to experience riding a bucking bronco in Texas, rollerskating down a Californian boardwalk or ice skating in New York’s Bryant Park. Footage of the locations was shot in 4K resolution with six Go-Pros and a specially-designed camera rig, and 'stitched' together to create a 360-degree world.

Footage of passers-by experiencing the virtual destinations was filmed and released on YouTube yesterday (10 December). Singer and BA brand ambassador Nicole Scherzinger also tried out the technology in Projection Artworks’ studio in London.

Jay Young, senior account manager at Projection Artworks, said: "Virtual reality is an exciting and emerging technology that we’re going to see evolve very quickly. We can’t wait to see where BA takes it next."
