Evans is suing SMG for loss of share options amounting to £8.6m he believes he is entitled to after he was fired in June 2001.
While giving evidence in the trial today, Evans admitted he was capable of a "bitter and self-centred display of arrogance".
Evans was sacked by Virgin when he failed to turn up to present his weekday breakfast show five days in a row. Evans had called in sick, but was photographed at a pub with pop star Billie Piper, whom he is now married to.
SMG claims Evans went out of his way to embarrass the station because he was no longer in control, after he sold it to the media group.
Evans contested this, saying he still retained full control of his breakfast show. He also said that he often presented the show for free on a Friday, when he was only contracted to work Monday-Thursday.
Later, he gave an emotional display and broke down while talking about the team he worked with for six years at Radio 1 and then at Virgin.
He said: "We had been through hell and high water together -- births, marriages and deaths, literally."
Evan's TV production company UMTV has recently been making headlines with a TV reality game show on Channel 4 called 'Boys and Girls' and 'Christian O'Connell Live' on Five.
The court case has had a negative affect on SMG, shares of which tumbled 9.17% at one point, but at 3.30pm was down 8.33%, or 5p, to 55p.
