A number of chairs, tables, sofas and fridges were delivered on Friday (12 August) to support the efforts of local landlady Jamie Boxell who runs The Gun Tavern in Croydon.

Boxell is coordinating support for local residents affected by the riots, with the donated furniture currently being held in storage at the public house before it is distributed within the local community.

The Gun Tavern is located just down the road from the scene of the extensive fire that destroyed the 140-year old family-run House of Reeves furniture store on 8 August. The burnt out shell of the furniture store has since had to be demolished.

"Feelings are running deep in all the affected areas of our country, but what is remarkable is the community spirit that is coming to the fore," says Europa International managing director Steve Murphy.

"The riots and subsequent vandalism and fires have devastated parts of Croydon – Reeves furniture being the most high profile casualty – and have left a deep mark on all those living in and close to the area.

"As a family-run business ourselves, we are delighted to be able to help Jamie and support her fantastic efforts to help the innocent victims of last week’s terrible events," he added.
