Eugene the geek is surprise favourite to win Big Brother

LONDON - Uber geek and ham radio fan is the new favourite to win the sixth series of 'Big Brother', having overtaken dim-witted Geordie dancer Anthony.

Ladbrokes has slashed the odds on Eugene winning 'Big Brother' from 4/1 last Friday to odds-on at 8/11. He overtakes Anthony, who drifts to evens from 2/7.

The bookmaker said that punters had been rushing to back the self-declared virgin and Terry Wogan fan Eugene.

Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: "The money has been pouring in for Eugene to win and he's now the odds-on favourite to triumph. Bookies have underestimated the cult following of the loveable geek."

"At the end of last week, Anthony had it won in our eyes but his bust-up with Craig has seen his popularity fall away dramatically."

Eugene had been seen as a rank outsider when he entered the show six weeks ago with Orlaith and Kinga. The three lived in the secret garden before Makosi chose Eugene and Orlaith to enter the 'Big Brother' house proper.

Kinga was kicked out but re-introduced when Belfast model Orlaith walked out of the house just over a week ago and promptly appeared on The Sun's Page 3.

Eugene has seen his odds rise after bonding with gay Tory speechwriter Derek, who lost out in Friday night's eviction when he left the house.

Before going, Derek congratulated Eugene for winning the public vote, saying: "Well done, I'm so very proud of you."

The housemates are due to face a surprise eviction this week, before the show's finale on Friday when it will be down to three. Kinga is the favourite housemate to be booted out first. Her odds of winning are 50/1.

Last week, she sparked hundreds of complaints to the watchdog Ofcom after simulating a sex act with a wine bottle.
