White has been with the company for ten years and head of newspapers since 2011.
In his new role he will head up the investment arm of the business, tasked with optimising trading across the ESI Media portfolio.
He will be replaced as head of newspapers by Oliver Wheatley, who is currently group head and brand manager at the London Evening Standard.
Wheatley will be responsible for agency relationships and developing new advertising initiatives for agencies and brands across the newspaper portfolio.
Both White and Wheatley will report into group sales director, Simon Poole.
Poole said: "As we continue to invest in our multi-platform proposition for advertisers, James’ strong trading performance and collaborative approach makes him the perfect person to take the business forward.
"Additionally, Oliver has an impressive track record in delivering strong results for the business.
"I look forward to working even more closely with both James and Oliver to build on the momentum of the success they’ve already achieved."
