The BHIC is keen to strengthen its online identity and make its site a central communications point for the entire equine industry.
It hopes to attract pony club members and professional riders through to vets and policy makers.
The organisation was set up in 1999 to provide a single, united voice in dealings with the government and other authorities.
The new site, created by digital agency Underwired, directs users to sign up for an e-newsletter and provides information on horse health and welfare. Among other things, it lists horse breeds bred in the UK, contacts for breeders, a glossary of equestrian and rural terms, and news from Defra, the government body that champions the sustainable development of the environment, countryside and rural economy.
Susie Reed, project manager at Underwired, said part of the challenge was to create a site heavy in content that was "inviting and elegant".
Tony Williamson, head of the horse industry and rural stakeholder engagement team at Defra, said the newly designed site was clear and easy to navigate -- "our prime requirements".
BHIC members are the British Horseracing Board, the British Equestrian Federation, the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association and the British Horse Society. The body also has representation from the British Equestrian Trade Association and the British Equine Veterinary Association.
