E.on launches campaign in response to British Gas' price-cuts

LONDON - E.on, the energy company, has launched a press campaign challenging British Gas' advertising claims that it is "cheapest standard gas and electricity" provider.

E.on claims that for consumers who use its Track and Save deal, bills could be lower that British Gas' Standard dual fuel bills until 1 February 2011. The press campaign uses the headline "Tempted by the British Gas price cut? Think again".

Copy in the ad states "With our Track and Save deal, your bills could be lower than British Gas' standard dual bills until 1 February 2011...".

Last week , making it the first major provider to pass on savings after an industry-wide drop in wholesale prices in 2009.

The price cut, which will benefit eight million households, takes effect immediately and makes British Gas, on average, the cheapest supplier of standard gas and electricity across Britain. The change is expected to save the average gas customer £55 a year.

British Gas marked the price drop, its third in 12 months, with a campaign spanning TV, outdoor, radio and print activity, created by CHI & Partners. It said it can save £187 off the average annual dual fuel bill.
