The creation of the tournament is the result of a 10-year deal struck last year between Endemol Sport and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).

The pre-season tournament kicks off in July this year and will be contested by Manchester City, Inter Milan, Celtic, and a League of Ireland X1.

It will be played at the Aviva Stadium in Ireland. It is thought that the event is currently looking for sponsors.

Sky Sports will broadcast exclusive coverage of the competition from this year through to 2013, in high definition.

The makeup of the competition means that every year, a Barclays Premier league club, a top Spanish or Italian club, and another prominent European club will compete alongside the Airtricity League X1, a team selected from the best players in Ireland’s top domestic league.

Endemol Sport said it was finalising agreements with other broadcasters around the world to broadcast the competition.

Endemol is working with sports agency Iconic to manage and produce the tournament, as well as managing all commercial rights, including media across all platforms internationally.

Barry Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: "The Dublin Super Cup will be part of our summer of live coverage on Sky Sports. We look forward to showing three of the best-known teams in Europe and the finest Irish talent, in four live matches."
