Empire puts £7m into global push

Electrical goods retailer Empire is to launch a series of European web sites in a £7 million new-media expansion programme.

The retail giant, which currently offers products only in the UK through high-street stores and online at www.Empiredirect.

co.uk, aims to roll out a number of country-specific web sites, starting with Germany, France and Italy next year.

The operation will be run by Empire's new media arm, Empiredirect, which recently embarked on an aggressive marketing and distribution programme within the UK.

Empiredirect.co.uk offers more than 3,500 products in categories ranging from home appliances to computing.
