'Steven Spielberg: the Man and his Movies' will be shown on Five on September 3 to coincide with the UK release of his new film 'The Terminal', which stars Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones.
The documentary has been researched by Ian Nathan, Empire's editor at large, and Ian Freer, the author of 'The Complete Spielberg' biography.
It will feature interviews with actors who have worked closely with Spielberg, including Bob Hoskins, Haley Joel Osment and Sir Richard Attenborough.
There will also be on-screen contributions from Colin Kennedy, the editor of Empire and a Spielberg expert.
Steve Buckley, the head of TV at Emap Consumer Media, said: "We're really excited by the potential to use Empire's access and credibility, working with like minds at Monkey and Five, to create great TV."
Sham Sandhu, the controller of pop features and special events at Five, said: "I'm thrilled that we have secured such rare and interesting interviews for this documentary. This establishes Five's reputation as the home for movie lovers and we intend to continue to build on this with more movie-related entertainment in the future."
In his multi-Oscar-winning career, Spielberg has directed such classic movies as 'Jaws', 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Schindler's List'.
