EMI teams up with 3 to supply music to phones

LONDON - EMI has partnered with 3G mobile operator 3 to supply full-length audio tracks to phones.

Users of 3, owned by Hutchison, will be able to access tracks from the artists with mobile rights owned by EMI Music UK, which include Kylie, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Joss Stone and Jamelia.

Customers will be able to listen to both new releases and back catalogue material.

The network's music offer already includes full-length videos from Sony BMG and music videos from independent label artists through VidZone. Robbie Williams launched his single "Misunderstood" on the 3 network ahead of TV and radio and Natasha Bedingfield and Rooster have also had concerts streamed live to 3's customers.

Bob Fuller, chief executive of 3 UK, said: "Music is one of our most popular services and through this deal our customers will be able to enjoy the very latest audio tracks from top artists."

3 first launched full-length music videos over mobile in August 2004.
