The show relaunches on January 5 with former Radio 1 DJ Mark Goodier, who takes over as presenter of the new chart. The new show replaces the Pepsi Chart show, which is hosted by Dr Fox, and will air between 4pm and 7pm.
The change at Emap coincides with Radio 1 naming 23-year old Wes Butters to host BBC Radio 1's chart rundown. The DJ, who previously worked for Galaxy 105 in Newcastle, will take over the post in February. He takes over from, and will compete with, the 41-year-old Goodier, who has already presented his last show and leaves the BBC after 15 years.
The Smash Hits Chart will allow listeners to influence the chart position of their favourite songs by voting by phone and SMS.
These votes will be combined with sales data from entertainment research consultants MRIB, radio airplay and request data from Emap's interactive music TV channels The Box and Smash Hits TV to determine the position of a track.
Listeners will also be able to get a sneak preview of how singles are progressing in the chart by tuning into the Smash Hits Buzz interactive chart radio show on Saturdays between 10am and 12 noon, presented by Darren Proctor.
Mark Story, managing director of Emap Radio, said: "The new year marks a new era for chart shows with the launch of The Smash Hits Chart -- the UK's first ever interactive countdown."
As well as airing on Emap's flagship dance station Kiss, the chart and the chart preview on Saturdays will be broadcast across Emap stations in major cities across the UK.
They are: Key 103 in Manchester; Radio Aire in Leeds; Radio City in Liverpool; Metro Radio in Newcastle; Rock FM, Preston; 96.6 TFM, Stockton on Tees; Hallam FM, Sheffield; and Viking FM in Hull.
It will also be broadcast on Emap's digital radio stations Smash Hits and Kiss DAB.
