Emap appoints Hall editor of More

LONDON - Emap Elan has promoted Alison Hall, a former editor of Slimming magazine, to the editorship of More! in an attempt to halt the sliding sales of the young women's magazine.

Emap appoints Hall editor of More

Hall takes over from Marianne Jones, who has moved to the post of consultant editor at Elan, following a 9.5% fall in More's circulation to 262,532, from 290,059 in January.

Jones has been with the title since April last year, when Emap poached her from the Daily Mirror's M magazine to replace Marina Gask, now editor-in-chief of Emap's youth group.

Hall joins More! from sister title Bliss where she worked as deputy editor and most recently as acting editor, while editor Helen Johnstone was on maternity leave.

While at Bliss, Hall was credited with overseeing the resizing of Bliss to its handbag size A5. Hall has also worked as editor of Slimming magazine and Celebrity Bodies.

According to Gask: "Alison has bowled us over in the last few months with her focus, drive and leadership skills, and these, along with her knowledge of the young women's market, made her the perfect candidate. Her vision for More! is very exciting and I can't wait for her to start."

The pressure will be on Hall to turn the magazine's fortunes around following a redesign aimed at giving it a sexier and more modern look. The revamp was supported by a multi-million pound marketing campaign.
