Emap Elan has poached Cosmopolitan's deputy editor, Helen Johnston,
to lead the relaunch of its teen lifestyle glossy Bliss.
Johnston will take over from the magazine's acting editor, Rachel Jane,
next month. She will not be directly involved with the redesigned
February issue of Bliss, which will hit newsstands on 5 January. Emap
Elan said that Jane would continue in her role as the magazine's deputy
editor.
"The appointment of Helen is a real coup for the magazine as we
reposition Bliss as the ultimate baby glossy," Marina Gask, Emap Elan's
youth group editor-in-chief, said. "Hiring someone of this calibre shows
the degree of commitment the company feels towards the youth group and
our determination to achieve supremacy in this market."
Johnston will compete with her former employer, the National Magazine
Company, which launched Cosmo GIRL! in September. Bliss has the
third-highest circulation for a young women's title in the UK, behind
Emap's More! and Attic Futura's Sugar.
