Emap apologises over 'minge' ad in children's magazine

LONDON - Heat publisher Emap has had to apologise about an advertisement featuring the website address showusyourminge.co.uk, which appeared in a magazine read by children.

The ad ran in Nintendo Official Magazine, promoting the Emap motoring title Revs.

It showed pictures of women wearing cropped tops, knickers and stilettos, leaning on or near cars and sometimes touching each other. The ad featured website addresses including showusyourminge.co.uk, getyertitsout.co.uk and fuckoffbass.co.uk.

A complaint about the ad was received from Cornwall, from concerned parents whose 11-year-old son had bought the magazine. They objected that the ad was unsuitable for a children's magazine.

The complaint was upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority, who said that the images were likely to cause widespread or serious offence.

In its defence, the advertisers said that the Revs ad was created to appear in Emap magazines that were targeted at young men, and that they had made an error in not taking into account the fact that the Nintendo Official Magazine had younger readers.

Revs magazine is published by Emap Automotive and, while it is ostensibly about modifying cars, it also features pictures of busty, barely-clad babes.
