Hachette Fillipachi UK announced last November that it was increasing the frequency of the magazine from bi-monthly to monthly in an attempt to shake up the teen sector.
The magazine has hired Peaches Geldof and Dominic McVey to become to become regular columnists. Geldof promises to offer her outspoken opinion every month while McVey, Britain's youngest self-made millionaire at 14, will be giving careers advice to readers.
The March issue, out today, has 'Coronation Street''s Tina O'Brien on the cover and comes with a 16-page supplement in association with Rimmel London, offering readers style tips from famous female icons such as Brigitte Bardot and Kate Moss.
Lysanne Currie, editorial director of Hachette's teen group, said: "Demand is growing and the move to monthly frequency will help ensure our long-term position as market leader in this sought-after sector."
Currie is working closely with Claire Irvin who is moving over from her current post as editor of Sugar to become consultant editor on ElleGirl.
Hachette's intention is to target the younger market now occupied by rivals CosmoGirl!, Bliss and J-17, which are aimed at a slightly younger market than ElleGirl.
ElleGirl was originally launched as part of the Emap Hachette joint venture. Since taking it under sole ownership, Hachette says it has increased the magazine's circulation to around 100,000 copies but the magazine has yet to have an official ABC.
