The TV spot, created by Euro RSCG, features clips including visuals of flood scenes, an excerpt from one of John F Kennedy's speeches stating that our environmental problems are man-made, and a clip from a government ad urging consumers to watch their meter.
Using the strapline "Save Today. Save Tomorrow", the ad highlights EDF Energy's commitment to reducing the carbon intensity of its electricity production by 60% by 2020.
The ad also features EDF Energy's first use of the London 2012 Olympic Games logo within TV advertising.
It launches on Sunday at 7.45pm during Coronation Street on ITV1.
The song featured in the ad, 'It's Not Easy Being Green', has been adapted from the original version written by Joe Raposo for 'Sesame Street' in 1970.
The wider campaign will also run across print, radio and online media.
Eva Eisenchimmel, chief operating officer of the customers branch of EDF Energy, said: "The ad aims to demonstrate EDF Energy's commitment to tackling climate change, as well as encourage UK households to take responsibility for their own environmental actions."
