The Financial Times reports that T-Mobile has agreed to wholesale tariffs that will be used by EasyMobile and a deal will be signed within the next week or two. T-Mobile is the carrier used by Virgin Mobile for its calls.
Haji-Ioannou first announced his plans to enter the market in the spring but has since found it difficult to strike a deal with a network carrier. In particular, his plans caused friction with Orange, due to the fact that both brands share the same colour.
EasyGroup has a partnership in place with Danish telecoms operator TDC, which in August signed a deal to use the Easy brand to market mobile phone services in 12 European countries. TDC will manage billing and network operations for EasyMobile, earning a royalty every time a customer is signed up.
TDC and EasyGroup are waiting to launch in the UK market before extending into the other countries.
EasyMobile will only sell via the internet, and will only offer SIM cards and airtime.
