'EastEnders' slumped to an all-time ratings low last week when it attracted just 6.2m viewers. The show used to regularly command more than 10m viewers.
Readers of Inside Soap magazine voted the BBC One mainstay as best show over ITV's 'Coronation Street' by 62 votes. It is the eighth year in a row the BBC has won the award.
Andrew Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland in 'Coronation Street', called the award a disgrace.
"It's a disgrace. No disrespect to 'EastEnders', but if they've lost that many viewers I can't understand how they won. It seems ridiculous," he told The Sun.
Altogether the ailing drama picked up six awards. Nigel Harman, who plays Dennis Rickman, won best male; June Brown, who plays Dot Brennan, won best actress; Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace, who play Alfie and Kat, won best couple; and Charlie Brooks, who plays Janine Butcher, won best bitch.
An 'EastEnders'' spokeswoman said of the victory: "We are over the moon that all the hard work put into the show by the cast and crew is recognised by our viewers."
'Coronation Street' also won six awards including sexiest female for Suranne Jones and two for 11-year-old Sam Aston, who was named best young actor and best newcomer.
A 'Coronation Street' spokesman said: "It's frustrating we didn't get more recognition."
