It will be open for public events and private bookings until October, when planned redevelopments of the site will take place.
The venue features a craft beer bar, a seasonal street-food menu and relaxed décor and furniture. In homage to Old Street’s street art community, the entire space has been decorated with graffiti murals.
The event space, dubbed by its founders Alex and Laurence Daw as ‘a roundabout roof garden’, is currently screening World Cup matches. On Friday (11 July) and Saturday (12 July), the venue will host the Beersham beer, cider and champagne festival.
The Daws have previously launched Spin:Ldn cycling festival, and were inspired to open to a European-style outdoor public venue. It is the first time the rooftop of the Shoreditch station has been utilised as an event space.
Alex Law said: "There are many bars in the area but none are completely outdoors. We are attempting to create an atmosphere one might feel comfortable in, like that of other European cities like Berlin or Barcelona.
"The intention of the space is to be uber-relaxed, with a chilled atmosphere and international flavour. The constant flux of multinationals passing through the station daily means we are already seeing a very eclectic crowd on the terrace."
Lawrence Law added: "I think legacy is too big a word, but if people can look back with fond memories on any experience on the Old Street Terrace space and say, ‘heck we were on that roundabout when Andy Murray won his second Wimbledon final, or we danced our way through the station and ended a memorable night at the terrace’, we will be have done what we set out to do."
