e-District to launch games on Telewest

LONDON - e-District, the interactive TV entertainment company, has signed a deal with Telewest to launch a series of pay-per-play and subscription games on its Active Digital.

The company is planning to launch around five to six games, including a multiplayer world adventure and trading game, and variants of Pacman and Tapper arcade games. Subscriptions will cost about £3 to £5 a month and pay-per-play games will be charged at a similar price to products already on the market.

e-District will also be developing the existing LeisureDistrict service, providing subscription-based chat and other messaging services such as SMS. e-District also operates the LeisureDistrict service on NTL and ITV Active.

Chris Townsend, director of e-commerce and interactive services at Telewest, said, "In building the LeisureDistrict community, e-District has shown great innovation in building a strong and loyal interactive TV following -- the addition of multiplayer and other premium games will certainly appeal to our customers."

e-District has also appointed Robert de Souza as operations director from his position as a consultant for Hutchison 3G. Previously, he had worked as iTV director for Nettec, where he launched the iTV division in the UK.

Telewest provides digital television, telephone and internet services to 1.7m households in the UK.
