DTI names June 25 as start date for corporate TPS

LONDON - The Department of Trade & Industry has confirmed that the Corporate Telephone Preference Service will be available for businesses to register their telephone numbers and opt-out of receiving unsolicited sales and marketing calls from June 25.

The service will give businesses the choice to opt out of direct marketing calls by writing to the TPS Service and registering relevant phone numbers. They will then be given an annual reminder of those numbers in case they no longer need to be covered.

The government has given a commitment to open up the register to corporate subscribers following consultation on the Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations last year.

According to Tessa Kelly, DMA director of compliance operations, this was postponed until this year in order to allow marketers and the TPS itself more time to adjust and to implement any special safeguards and procedures required by corporate subscription. The extension was supported by the British Chambers of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses.
