DraftFCB promotes Sachs to chief growth officer role

LONDON - Interpublic Group-owned agency DraftFCB has promoted Toby Sachs, group management director at the company's Chicago office, to chief global growth officer.

Sachs, who has more than 25 years of agency experience, joined FCB Chicago in 2004 to work on the Boeing account, and helped the agency win the global Dow business.

He takes over from Tony Weisman, who left DraftFCB for Digitas' Chicago office at the beginning of the year, and will stay in Chicago where he will report directly to Laurence Boschetto, president and chief operating officer.

DraftFCB said Sachs was chosen for his excellent account management skills, successful new-business background and knowledge of the Draft and FCB businesses.

Prior to joining DraftFCB, Sachs worked for 20 years at Leo Burnett, where he handled the Kellogg's account across Asia, the US and Europe.

He also oversaw business development at Leo Burnett, helping to bring in more than $600m from major clients, which include the US Army and the US Postal Service.

Boschetto said: "Toby is someone with the experience we needed at this important time in our agency's development to further fuel our growth.

"He's an excellent account manager, and he knows new business and has the track record to prove it. He is clearly comfortable crossing borders, recognising that great business-building ideas can come from anywhere at any time."

In November, DraftFCB were appointed by Wal-Mart to handle creative duties for the US-based retail giant's $570m account, only to be controversially stripped of the business a month later.

Interpublic Group managed to hold on to the account via the Martin Agency, but Julie Roehm, Wal-Mart's former marketing executive, is now suing the retailer for breach of contract and allegations she was smeared in the press following DraftFCB's dismissal.
