Separately, former Dowson director and shareholder Simon Diggins has set up DD Exhibitions. The firm, which operates in the same arena as Dowson, refers to the Dowson name on its website and was registered with Companies House on 1 April this year - over two months before Dowson went into administration.

When asked whether the businesses were connected, Diggins said that his firm struggles "to see the link to the business now, what our goals are and the services we offer"?

Diggins said the two firms were separate, unrelated entities, and that Dowson's administration process "was conducted under the correct legal procedures in a ‘transparent' manner".

Among the firms listed as creditors by Dowson, Melville Hire Services was owed £29,160 and 24/7 was owed £8,545.

The DD Exhibitions "About Us" section reads:

"DD exhibitions was established in 1963 as Dowson Display Limited. The company began by designing and producing custom-built display units for the travel industry. Today DD exhibitions have been customer led in evolving into a full in-house design and production facility."
