Dotmusic is the top UK music site

LONDON - Dotmusic has beaten rival website NME.com to first place in the UK's top 10 music sites, according to Hitwise, the internet traffic and research service.

Dotmusic is the largest and longest established music website in UK and Europe. It was started in 1995 and is produced by United Business Media. According to Hitwise, the site attracts 21.9% of music fans visiting the top 10 sites. This puts it ahead of NME.com which draws 20.8%. Dotmusic is also ranked as number one by auditors ABC electronic.

NME.com, the online version of the well-known music weekly, is produced by IPC Media and was the website of the year 2001 at the PPA awards. The site misses out on the UK number one slot, but retains its position as the most popular music site in Europe.

Other popular sites include Dancetech at three, followed by MTV UK and Ireland at four. Peoplesound.com, the site that lets consumers find and download free MP3 files from unsigned bands, was at five. Official band websites in the top 10 include sites from pop acts Westlife, Robbie Williams and Steps.
