Donelly to lead 4 Radio music efforts

LONDON - Channel 4 has appointed EMI executive Alex Donelly as head of music for 4 Radio.

Donelly, who joins Channel 4 from music group EMI, where he was senior vice president of A&R, will work across all of 4 Radio’s national digital radio stations and have overall responsibility for the music output of each station.

Initially, Donelly will work with 4 Radio’s Director of Radio, Bob Shennan on developing the music strategy and launch plans for the planned E4 Radio station.

His appointment comes at a time when 4Digital’s chairman, Nathalie Schwarz is coming under pressure from the Channel 4 board to cut costs out of the planned digital radio venture.

It is thought that 4Digital could be in talks with the backers of the Digital One DAB multiplex to discuss the creation of a single company that would oversee both multiplexes.

4Digital had originally intended to launch in the summer, but it is thought that this date is now be under review.
