The government wants to broaden awareness of the NHS Direct self-help guide Not Feeling Well?, which offers advice about the symptoms and treatments of various illnesses.
The DoH believes bringing in sponsors will allow it to overcome budget restrictions that have hampered distribution of the guide.
NHS Direct is the government's flagship 24-hour helpline. It is staffed by nurses who provide advice and information on a variety of symptoms and services. The initiative is designed to improve efficiency in the NHS by reducing the number of unnecessary visits to GPs.
Hugh Taylor, managing director of Grasshopper, said: "The Not Feeling Well? self-help guide is a very useful tool and is relevant to all of the population. We are confident we will be able to find brands to form a mutually beneficial partnership with the DoH for this and future projects."
Grasshopper was handed the brief after a three-way pitch overseen by COI Communications.
The DoH recently appointed below-the-line shop Iris to handle a campaign promoting safe sex to young people. The campaign is running alongside Delaney Lund Knox Warren & Partners' Sex Lottery advertising push.
