There are designs in the world that call up an instant mental
picture and even emotion, which makes them truly successful.
The Aga is one such design. Think Aga, think warmth, comfort and the
wholesome goodness of the old farmhouse.
Hot scones, homemade soup, the dog curled up in the front room, heating
its wind-chilled bones. Images that make you instantly relax and go:
"Ahhh!"
My mum has had one for 40 years, originally running on coal that my dad
had to fetch every day. When I moved into my new house six years ago, it
was the first thing I bought for it.
Such a solid structure, the Aga gives the appearance of a strong and
dependable friend while exuding a warm and comforting blanket around the
entire room.
Unchanged for practically 70 years, Aga recently launched a campaign
with a range of new colours such as pistachio, aubergine and heather to
appeal to the modern homeowner, although I'm not so sure about the names
of the range - what's wrong with dark blue?
My mum's Aga is the traditional cream. It was the original colour all
those years ago and is still proving very popular.
So much changes every second in the fast-paced world we live in but
sometimes you want consistency.
For me that's the Aga, not any of your stainless steel, catering
capacity hobs, thank you very much.
The Aga is an absolute design classic and I wouldn't want to be without
it. Oh, and it cooks quite well too.
