Capital Radio has been awarded the South Wales local digital licence covering Cardiff and Newport.
Capital Radio Digital, a wholly owned susbidiary of Capita Radio, was the sole applicant for the licence which will broadcast to 800,000 adults. It is the first digital licence Capital Radio has won on its own.
Capital said it intended to start broadcasting next October and will offer eight services. These will include a contemporary hit station from Capital-owned Red Dragon FM, Capital Gold and Capital’s indie rock station Xfm. GWR will provide a male rock station while the provider of the multiplex’s dance station has yet to be announced.
