Digital news: First Direct steps up podcast use

First Direct is to step up its podcast activity by using the medium to campaign on financial and lifestyle issues.

The podcasts will continue to highlight its customer-service credentials, but are likely to focus on issues such as getting out of debt and saving for the future.

Until now, the HSBC-owned online and retail bank has used the medium for informative purposes only.

In June, it became the first finance firm to promote itself via the channel with the launch of a podcast that advised customers on online security.

A second podcast featured chief executive Chris Pilling musing on what makes for good customer service, and customer-service staff talking about life at the other end of the phone.
