Diageo and Sainsbury's reach agreement over Pimm's 'copycat'

LONDON - Diageo has dropped its legal action against Sainsbury's over the supermarket's Pitchers drink, which the drinks company claimed was too similar to its Pimm's product.

Diageo and Sainsbury's reach agreement over Pimm's 'copycat'

launched proceedings against in August over Pitchers, a gin-based drink to which lemonade and fruit can be added. Pitcher's is priced lower than the Diageo brand.

However, the two companies today issued a joint statement, saying: ‘Diageo and Sainsbury's are pleased to confirm that the dispute regarding Diageo's Pimm's brand and Sainsbury's Pitchers brand has been amicably settled and the legal proceedings withdrawn.'

Sainsbury's will continue sell the Pitchers brand, but with a modified label. It will also change the colouring from gold to orange.
