Directed by Richard Carroll at Love Productions the film will air tonight. It was created by the creative team of twins Simon and Mathew Welch at DFGW.
The promo opens with a mum and dad getting ready to go to work in the usual rush and kids getting off to school. Clips are then shown throughout their day. Mum is a dental nurse and Dad is a sales rep and the kids are at school playing sport and having lessons.
In a split screen, the film viewers then see scenes from the Middle East and events from various other countries, which are all then reported on the BBC News aired between 6-7pm when the family are back home having supper.
Throughout the film the digital clock is ticking giving it a look akin to hit drama series '24' look. The spot finishes with the end line: "What sort of day are you having? Find out what sort of day the rest of the world is having and watch BBC News."
According to Simon Welch: "The idea was to show that while you are living your life the rest of the world is experiencing completely different days that you are not aware of. You go on with your routine while dramas unfold everywhere and when you get home it all comes together for you to see on the BBC News."
The BBC News promo follows a television campaign DFGW created to promote a new BBC Two drama series called 'If', depicting what the future would be like if a number of environmental and demographic issues scenarios came to pass.
The news project was Carroll's second job working with producer John Golley after going solo and splitting from Felt partner Dominic Bridges. He previously directed the short film for Wimbledon 2003 and as well as ads for Nissan, PlayStation and Fox Sports.
"This was an interesting idea contrasting typical family life against world events that would be reported on the news later that night. Visually this film has its own look rather than being a direct pastiche of the hit series '24'," Carroll said.
